COUNTERZINE Incredibly rare to hear such a lengthy, fully formed, conceptually realized project from a group just pop up here with no real fanfare. This is a great, legit rock record that captures young adult angst exceptionally well, with an intimate and relatable voice, without sacrificing hooks. High recommendation. Favorite track: An American Appetite.

There's no two ways about it We were born to twist and shout it Rock 'n' Roll, it's not a joke to you or me You won't see me laugh about it 'Cause I just can't live with out it So let's take it to where the world can see I love you And I'm positive that you love me

The secret to your success exists in your mind The way you turn a phrase and time your jokes not quite right You say you've been to places no one's been to Pop music's the dream, Rock 'n' Roll is the clue Violence makes you throw up, your body makes you cry The gaze of the world is enough to make a shameless man shy You say you've been to places no one's been to Some times I look at you the way an animal must view the moon The love of the world is not enough to lift you upright Tell me why you say you've been to places no one's been to The secret to your success exists in your mind The gaze of the world is enough to kill you outright Tell me why you say you've been to places no one's been to The secret to your success exists in your mind No hugs for no one Love is why the world is wrong All night in the pool Don't you think the moon looks cool

So much wasted ambition I hate to see a young man with an addiction A man now wicked and cruel Was once meek and humble All the things in this world you would replace They made you what you are in the first place Dogs and cats aren't family I've put down pet before and it meant nothing to me Community and neighbors They do me no favors Car shows and chili cook-off events Local leaders with ribbons to present Sunsets, I don't admire Natural formations all fail to inspire Canyons and rivers and lakes All nature's mistakes Alright (Yeah) These aren't lines from poems or from plays It's not a stage for opera or ballet It isn't prose for podium or page It's not a role for cinema or stage Principles and rudiments to teach Eighteen holes to play at Pebble Beach The hand that holds the prize will someday change Sacrifice in the spirit of exchange Privileges provided by birth Soon return to the dust of the Earth Alright (Yeah) What sounded wrong suddenly sounds correct Heavy songs in sound and subject

I Can't Die 02:41
All my life been a nervous guy Went to the doctor today and he told me I'm clinically shy There's nothing he can do for me No medicine, no surgery No procedure or therapy But all my life I've been skeptical Of rich doctors, their opinions, and their morals and their principles So even with a PhD Medical school, residency Can't diagnose me properly I can't die Poison and disease and sword and scythe Can't hurt my body it won't End my life Disasters and collisions Spears and knives They'll fail once, they won't try twice In the past I've been critical Of those who create altercation and make disagreements personal I avoid confrontation typically Violence specifically Don't involve myself physically But something's changed in me recently A fire's been ignited, doesn't matter if you think of me As ignorant and uninformed A criminal to be reformed A beast unneutered fanged and horned I can't die Poison and disease and sword and scythe Can't hurt my body it won't End my life Disasters and collisions Spears and knives They'll fail once, they won't try twice

You know me and everyone knows you You know me and everyone knows you You know me and everyone knows you a-woo-hoo If you went deaf too soon From all the shows you've been to Then I'd learn sign language for you ooo-oo-ooo-ooo wah-oh wah-oh-oh-oh wah-oh-oh I really hate my dad Oh man Tell me it's not true It's tough It's tough being a young man I'll burn down this whole school It's tough being a young man And it's hard being a Rock 'n' Roll fan And it's not easy having a favorite band, I mean man, like Do I look like I made a fuckin' six-year-plan My situation's not awful But there are things that I don't have That I want That I need To be gratified There's no lampshading in real life No prequel To explain that eye patch No teenagers in jackets talkin hella shit about your friends It's tough being a young man

Schools all compete now The kids will grow into their crowns And teachers hang their frowns From the walls of delis across town From speech incoherent They make out some terms of endearment Words however frequent Assure them of their achievement Hell, they stand near it It cries but they do not hear it For they do not fear it They stand with the holy spirit And in it's protection No harm will come to them or their children That old time religion It's good enough for them I said I'm leaving this town The people here they just keep me down She asked how is it anybody keeps you down When you choose to live so close to the ground I said I've only ever acted sincerely I've cried so loud and they just don't hear me She said open your eyes your not seeing clearly The people of this town love you dearly I said I do not require permission From their old superstition She asked well if you've got so much ambition How do you plan to break their tradition I said the words that I invent Will be heard someday in every accent She said poeta nascitur non fit But I did not know what that meant From their seats some lips repeat The poetry of a football coach With rolling drums and big country strums And from a float the champions approach Well I learned my lesson I guess I really learned my lesson I never should've dropped out of college News is starting to spread all over town A kid went swimming in the river that's where he drowned Apparently a dead tree on the bank fell down I mean it must've weighed at least nine-hundred pounds And when it landed in the water it pinned him down And there was no body else around No way for him to make any kind of sound No way to draw attention, no way to be found And now they're putting him in the ground And at the funeral everybody's standing around Waiting for someone to say something profound And so they find the smartest guy and they surround him as he tells them to remember that "time is round and it rolls quickly" and though tragedy may confound The light of the lord astonishes and astounds To this Earth we are not bound Well I learned my lesson Everybody learned a valuable lesson

If I could rule If I had subjects I'd be very cruel I'd break their hearts, I'd use them just like tools But they'd love me all the same 'Cause I'd be their king They would drink from no one else's spring They'd bow their heads, put their lips to my ring From every branch it would be my birds that sing The expressions of a servant faithful and devout Who starves to death as buzzards eat his systems out Sometimes I get so sad But no hill on the Earth will go un-stabbed By the staff of my own kingdoms flag No hill but your own 'Cause you say that we Have attitudes uncomplimentary Personalities that disagree I was born to rule, you were born to be free The gallows have been prepared and the hanging's been rehearsed Still the whole kingdom mourns for they know that it was a curse If I could rule If I had subjects I'd be very cruel I'd break their hearts, I'd use them just like tools But they'd love me all the same 'Cause I'd be their king They would drink from no one else's spring They'd bow their heads, put their lips to my ring From every branch it would be my birds that sing I'll throw their fucking bodies in a stream Is your name Little Nemo 'Cause you're livin' in a dream I'll kill every fuckin' hippie in the world

I woke up this morning my hair looked a certain way I used a different product, now it's lost its wave My entire face has changed On my driver's license I have dark skin on my face I look at recent pictures, I appear a different race When was I replaced (Alright) Yeah When I was a boy a crashed my bike and cut my knee The scar, it still remains, its the only thing I've kept with me How can that be (Alright) Yeah I woke up this morning my hair looked a certain way I used a different product, now it's lost its wave My entire face has changed

A stroke of the master's brush As the subject it makes me blush Life is Strange This boy, he will not improve Forelock never to be removed Life is strange I was certain this was my year My craft honed, my word sincere But things can change Life is strange How disingenuous I've become I live by expressions and idioms Words are strange The gaze of an audience can make me pause But what can I say, I live for applause But now they say get off the stage Get off the stage I've acted with intent to destroy Unlike a man and just like a boy I'm so ashamed Life is strange

The minute you gave me Has turned into forty-three And you won't get them back from me I feel really bad for wasting so much of your time Weird anime all day Weird anime all the way The ideas you give me Well they're just too good not to repeat And the feelings they inspire Well I'm not really sure what they mean I had no idea what weird cartoons could do to me Weird anime all day Weird anime all the way The jokes that I told you the humor just didn't come through The minute I gave you Has turned into fifty-two And I won't get them back from you You can probably tell we're approaching the end of the song Weird anime all day Weird anime all the way
